Humanize Gaza!

About us

About us

Humanize Gaza is a grassroots initiative that began in the wake of the May 26, 2024 bombing of displaced Palestinians in tent camps—an atrocity widely known as “The Tent Massacre.” In the face of ongoing propaganda that seeks to erase the victims and sanitize their deaths under the pretext of “targeted airstrikes,” we knew something had to change. These were not anonymous casualties—they were human beings, and their lives deserved to be remembered.

Our initiative was born out of the urgent need to document and share the names, faces, and stories of those killed in Gaza. Each life taken had a story—dreams, families, laughter, hobbies, and love. They are not numbers. They are not “human shields.” They are not collateral damage. They are our martyrs, and we honor their memory by telling their stories.

We gather these stories directly from people on the ground in Gaza, often through the Twitter page @GazaMartyrs, which is run by individuals who remain in the besieged strip despite the danger. Family members send in photos, names, and personal stories of their loved ones who have been martyred, and we work to preserve and amplify their memories. It is a painful but powerful act of witness, remembrance, and resistance.

Communicating with people in Gaza is a constant challenge. Internet access is unreliable at best, often completely cut off for hours—or days—at a time. Every moment of silence fills us with fear, wondering if those we've come to know and care about have made it through another night. Despite this, we speak with them as often as we can across social media apps, and each connection feels like a lifeline—a reminder of their strength, resilience, and unwavering humanity.

Through this initiative, we have had the immense honor of getting to know some of the most humble, courageous, and steadfast people in the world. Humanize Gaza is more than a project—it is a commitment to memory, justice, and the belief that every life deserves to be seen, heard, and remembered.

Humanize Gaza exists to restore the dignity, voices, and stories of the martyrs of Gaza—those whose lives have been brutally taken in the ongoing genocide. In the face of dehumanizing narratives and mass media silence, we are committed to telling the truth: every person lost was a human being with dreams, families, and a life worth remembering.

We work directly with people on the ground in Gaza, often in partnership with the Twitter page @GazaMartyrs, where family members submit the names, photos, and stories of their loved ones. These stories are shared with their consent, and each one is a testament to a life that mattered.

Despite the constant threat of disconnection due to bombings and widespread internet blackouts, we stay in close contact with our community in Gaza through social media apps. When we lose connection, we fear the worst. When we reconnect, we are reminded of their strength.

This initiative is not just about remembrance—it’s about resistance. It’s about standing against erasure and honoring every martyr not as a number, but as a life. They are not statistics. They are our people. They are our martyrs. And their stories will not be forgotten.
